Research Activities: | The research activity is aimed at the study of mitochondrial functionality and dynamics in relation to redox homeostasis and cellular bioenergetics. Of recent interest is the investigation of the different mechanisms of stress response and intercellular mitochondrial transfer (extracellular vesicles and nanotunnels). These processes are investigated in the following biological areas: Study of the biological effects and molecular mechanisms related to energetic and oxidative stress responses induced by the action of xenobiotics/compounds on different in vitro cellular models (e.g. murine Sertoli cells; human conjunctiva epithelial cells). Analysis of the cytoprotective and mitoprotective activity of natural/synthetic compounds in human trabecular meshwork and conjunctival epithelial cells exposed to molecules with pro-oxidant activity. |
