Educational objectives of the degree course
The Degree Course in Physiotherapy belonging to the L/SNT2 rehabilitation class, lasts three years and confers a qualifying degree which allows the practice of the profession of Physiotherapist.
The objective of the course is to train health professionals with the necessary skills to carry out the profession of physiotherapist. This profession can be carried out both independently and in collaboration with other healthcare professionals, for the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of motor, cortical and visceral functions damaged by pathological events of various etiologies, in compliance with the expertise of the specific professional profile (DM 741/94).
Theoretical learning is closely accompanied by professional internship which takes place in structures of Healthcare Companies affiliated with the University; During the practical training course, students are supported by expert physiotherapists. It is possible to complete the training course with study experiences abroad, through international exchange programs (LLP-Erasmus). Specific objectives are the acquisition of systematic and updated knowledge of the anatomical, physiological, kinesiological and rehabilitation methodology processes, necessary for the physiotherapist profession profile setting.
The educational offering also aims to provide the student with a wealth of knowledge and skills that are necessary for continuing their studies in a Degree Course in Physiotherapy, in which they will complete their personal and professional training, as well as for carrying out of the different professional activities that characterize the professional profile of the Physiotherapist. The graduate must have knowledge and skills that make him suitable to interact with other professional figures of the multidisciplinary team specific to rehabilitation care contexts.
The educational path of study
The general and specific training objectives of the three-year degree course are divided into lessons with frontal teaching and training internships. The course requires the acquisition of 180 ECTS, divided into three years and the modules are designed to provide a progressive acquisition of the contents specific to the profession.
In particular, the training objectives achieved during the course of studies will allow the graduate in Physiotherapy to acquire knowledge of: basic biological disciplines, such as anatomy, physiology and kinesiology, principles for understanding scientific investigations, and procedures for data processing in the rehabilitation field; adequate skills in the use of the English language in the context of specific and technical communication of physiotherapy, acquisition of fundamentals characterizing the field of physiotherapy and rehabilitation with specific reference to the neurological, orthopaedic, cardio-respiratory, oncology, sports and childhood pathologies.
The professional internship
60 ECTS (of the 180 total ECTS) are foreseen for the professional internship, divided into INTERNSHIP I, II and III, which will be carried out at the relevant ASL Avezzano-Sulmona-L'Aquila and in numerous affiliated structures that students can choose to carry out their training internship, always carried out with the guidance and supervision of a physiotherapist tutor. The Director of Professionalizing Educational Activities is responsible for planning and organizing the internship: in collaboration with the tutors of the technical-practical activities, he develops the training project for the annual internship. At the end of each year of the course, a certification evaluation of the internship completed is carried out. Professional training is also favored by the attendance of seminars on professional ethics and deontology as well as physiotherapeutic techniques, specifically covered in the SSD laboratories, organized and carried out by the physiotherapist teachers of the Course (3 CFU).
The final exam of the rehabilitation health professions degree course class has the value of a state exam qualifying the profession of physiotherapist. To take the final exam, the student must have obtained all the university credits set out in the study plan. The final exam consists of two tests: a practical evaluation during which the student must demonstrate that he has acquired the theoretical-practical and technical-operational knowledge and skills specific to the specific professional profile, and the drafting and presentation of a thesis.
The requirements for admission
Students who intend to enroll must have a high school diploma or other equivalent foreign qualification. Access to the course of studies is limited to a number of students scheduled at a national level with reference to what is annually established by the relevant Ministerial Decrees.
The knowledge and skills required for admission are verified through an admission test defined annually by a specific ministerial decree. In implementation of the provisions of Ministerial Decree no. 270/2004, art. 6, paragraph 1, incoming students who, in the admission test, have acquired less than 50% of the average score in the quizzes relating to the Biology are indicated specific additional training obligations (OFA) which they must be completed during the first year of studies.
Study abroad
The agreements stipulated with other European universities guarantee the student the possibility of completing, during the three-year period, training in physiotherapy in international contexts with relative recognition of training credits gained abroad. Employment and professional opportunities
Graduates in Physiotherapy can find employment in public or private health and social care facilities, both as employees and as freelancers in physiotherapy and rehabilitation services within the NHS, private facilities accredited and affiliated with the NHS, research institutes, private nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, Healthcare Residences, at the patient's home and in outpatient facilities.
