Educational Goals
The educational goals are achieved through an advanced path aiming at providing the knowledge/skills in the following disciplines, with particular reference to the training of the specific professional figure of the technical-diagnostic area:
- biomedical, biological, medical and surgical sciences;
- biomedical laboratory sciences and techniques, medical radiology for imaging and radiotherapy, neurophysiopathology and audiometry;
- legal and economic sciences and healthcare management;
- prevention and health services;
- propaedeutic, IT, statistical and demographic sciences;
- human studies, psycho-pedagogical and anthropological sciences.
The educational activity is mainly structured in integrated courses aiming at providing a holistic and, at the same time, multidisciplinary approach to achieve the above-mentioned goals.
By the end of the educational path, graduates shall be able to:
- apply knowledge/skills in the field of biology, medicine, biomedicine to the professional reference framework of the health diagnostic technique sciences;
- apply, in the healthcare facilities, the knowledge/technical skills relevant to the specific professional figure and appropriate to make decisions concerning the organization and management of the healthcare services provided by the medical staff with technical-diagnostic functions;
- understand the ways of acting of the healthcare staff in its overall dimension, that is ethical, social and moral;
- contribute to designing and implementing scientific data processing systems as well as to their management and use in the various healthcare application contexts;
- use the necessary healthcare economics and business organization skills for the organization of healthcare services and the human and technological resources available, evaluating also the cost/benefit ratio;
- employ, in the organization of healthcare services, research methods and tools;
- plan and improve all the activities aimed at increasing the (human, technological, information, financial) resources available to the health facilities;
- plan and implement training programs for updating and lifelong learning relevant to the healthcare facilities;
- increase, as part of the tutorial activities and the internship coordination, in basic and lifelong training, the teaching skills for the specific professional figure;
- educate on the legal aspects with regard to the regulatory, administrative and judicial skills;
- communicate clearly with staff and users on organizational and healthcare issues.
Educational Path
The educational path, which consists of two years with the acquisition of 120 credits (CFU), aims at providing the knowledge/skills in the field of biological and biomedical sciences, technical-diagnostic sciences, legal and economic sciences, management, prevention and healthcare services, statistical, demographic and IT sciences applied in particular to healthcare management, psychology, and sociology as well as the principles of the professional discipline as requirements to face the internship experience, aimed at obtaining the skills in the relevant fields of the class (such as that, for example, of the laboratory medicine techniques sciences and the applied medicine techniques sciences) besides the guidance of the student towards the relevant professional sectors. Activities aimed at in-depth specialist studies, particularly the acquisition of knowledge and methodologies concerning the practice of the profession, the ability to work in team and in complex organizational contexts as well as scientific research methodologies supporting the final essay are also envisaged.
In the two years of the study course optional educational activities (AFO) to be chosen by the student are also envisaged as well as other educational activities (e.g. laboratory or informatic activities) and the acquisition of B2 level English.
Practical activities
The professionalizing internship is carried out mainly at local health companies (ASL) affiliated with the University of L'Aquila, based on protocols and agreements, and at research and simulation laboratories of the University.
This type of internship is identified as an in-house internship. It is also possible that the student may carry out internship activities at suitable external facilities upon the stipulation of appropriate agreements between the Department and the host entity (e.g., external health care companies, IRCCS, public and private institutions, professional firms, associations, other Italian Universities, research centers, etc.).
This type of internship is identified as an external internship. The internship activity can also be carried out at foreign facilities and/or structures (e.g., Universities, Health Facilities) as part of international mobility programs (e.g., programs Erasmus+, Erasmus Mundus) (foreign internships). Through internship activities, the student should be able to develop skills on the application of operational methodologies in the following areas: organization of health professions services; basic, advanced and continuing training of personnel belonging to the health professions; research in clinical and care areas of curricular relevance, in the organization of health services and training; complex health activities.
Admission requirements
Admission to the master's degree program is by programmed number according to Law 264/1999 and is conducted as indicated in the relevant Ministry Decrees.
Admission requires possession of a university degree or diploma qualifying for the profession under class L-SNT/3, technical-diagnostic area (audiometric techniques, diagnostic imaging and radiotherapy techniques, biomedical laboratory diagnostic techniques, neurophysiopathological diagnostic techniques) as well as related to the corresponding class related to the Ministerial Decree 02/04/2001, or other equivalent title (titles qualifying for the practice of one of the health professions, included in the class of master's degree of interest, referred to in Law No. 42/1999) or other qualification obtained abroad, recognized as suitable.

Occupational and professional outlets
Graduates of the master's degree possess advanced cultural and professional training to intervene with high competence in care, management, training and research processes.
They will be able to find employment in public and private health care institutions/institutions in the field of planning and management of health area personnel, in the development of new methods for work organization, in the coordination of the technical-practical activity of bachelor's degrees. The acquired methodological knowledge acquired also allows them to intervene in specific training and research processes, with reference to the sciences of diagnostic technical health professions.
After graduation, students can also continue their education by accessing level II masters or doctoral programs.
