Learning objectives
The specific objectives of the Master Degree in Health Professions of Rehabilitation Sciences are knowledge and application of:
- The essential methodological elements of epidemiology;
- The essential elements of human resources management, with particular reference to healthcare issues; - The principles of Law, with the acquisition of the main laws regulating the healthcare organization, as well as the ethical and professional responsibilities;
- basic notions of business and public policy economics, essential elements of business organization, with particular reference to healthcare services and optimization processes of human and technological resources.
Further specific learning objectives of this Course:
- Proper use of performance indicators monitoring effectiveness and efficiency of the healthcare service for specific diseases and disease groups; - verify the outcomes resulting from research activities, in relation to the continuous improvement of healthcare quality;
- identify the essential components of organizational and management issues related to the healthcare operators working in facilities of middle/high complexity;
- know and apply the communication techniques suitable for both individuals and groups and for interpersonal relationships with patients and their families;
- manage working groups and apply appropriate strategies to favour multiprofessional and organizational integration processes;
- acquire the methods of self-directed and lifelong learning;
- make a systematic bibliographic research, also by means of databases, and the relevant periodic updating; - Critically read scientific articles;
- develop research and teaching, as well as improve human resources management strategies about the specific professional figure;
- achieve a satisfying level of written and oral competence in English language;
- gain computer skills useful to manage the information systems of the healthcare service and the self-training processes.
The training activities, mainly organized in “specific integrated courses”, guarantee a holistic and, at the same time, interdisciplinary view of the learning objectives, with the in-depth analysis of subject-matters belonging to distinctive disciplinary sectors, and also to related and supplementary disciplinary sectors. In compliance with the Ministerial Decree 8th January 2009, each teaching module provides for a consistent number of credits, in order to avoid the information given to students to be fragmented.
The didactic activities provided for comprise frontal lessons, conferences, seminars, discussion groups aimed at pursuing the training pathway objectives.
The teaching process avails itself of modern educational resources. Along with the traditional didactic methods, students take advantage of supervised work experiences at specialized healthcare and training services in Italy or abroad regulated by specific agreements. This kind of training allows students to progressively assume professional autonomy and responsibility, proposing bespoke simulations and intervention projects and acquiring the adequate organizational and managerial competencies in the field of Prevention in public facilities.
Laboratory and internship activities are carried out under the supervision of professional tutors designated and assigned to each student, and coordinated by the most expert professors of the interested area.
The study plan provides for a maximum of 12 exams and/or final assessment tests, organized as integrated examinations for more than one teaching module.
The assessment of the learning outcomes occurs through both traditional written and oral exams and through a sequence of ongoing tests (self-assessment tests and intermediate interviews), aimed at verifying the acquired knowledge. As far as the written exams are concerned, the following types of tests can be used:
1) Multiple-choice tests or short answers, set on interdisciplinary issues, followed by exams aimed at verifying the acquired competencies;
2) Written reports on assigned topics and analysis of activities and reports related to the final exam, also as a reflection on field and laboratory activities; furthermore, assessment of the overall profile built according to predefined criteria. The academic regulations, in compliance with the regulatory limits, will define the amount of the students’ overall time addressed to personal study or to other individual training activities.
The training pathway is organized, monitored, validated and optimized “in continuum”, in order to enable students to acquire abilities, technical competencies and knowledge provided for by the existing rules, the academic profile and the specific learning objectives of the Course.
These specific learning objectives are supported by an excellent teaching staff, aware of the need to use all the institutional resources activated by the competent bodies (NVF and NVA), in order to achieve the accreditation of educational quality.
Professional status
The professional opportunities consist in providing services in National Healthcare Service facilities [hospitals and/or Local Healthcare Companies/Providers and healthcare professions departments] and in healthcare organizations; in the design and realization of interventions focused on lifetime training and updating, related to healthcare facilities; in the contribution to train every single specific professional figure with tutorial activities and internships, and directly update their professional profile, as well as research.
They carry out their professional activity also in public or private healthcare facilities, authorized by the existing laws, as employed or freelancers. Master’s graduates can access PhD programmes, with the aim of improving scientific investigation and research methods, as well as Second Level Professional Master’s Diplomas, oriented towards scientific improvement and lifetime training/lifelong learning on specific intervention areas.
